In my opnion Combat was not really a factual history of WW2, but it did honor the individual infantry soldier who fought at that time. A couple of seasons were filmed at a winery near my hometown. The producers thought the grape fields resembled France.

In my opinion the Panther had the best package if you take firepower,armour, maneuverabily and speed together...not the best in one of them,but all combined...Reliability was also good exept the first generation thrown in combat too early...

@idesilvi Thanks for the memories. I remember watching Combat every week when I was a kid in the 60s. Like several of my friends I was a Combat junkie. Vic Morrow is gone, God Rest His Soul, but he still lives on today as Sgt. Saunders. I would love to have all the episodes of Combat on DVD.

@Axgoodofdunemaul Thanks for your service for our country, I have utmost respect for the Vietnam Veterans. My uncle was in WW2 however he didn't care to watch Combat, never really said why, but thinking back I can probably understand why. In my opnion Combat was not really a factual history of WW2, but it did honor the individual infantry soldier who fought at that time. A couple of seasons were filmed at a winery near my hometown. The producers thought the grape fields resembled France.

@MrMike3865 You might be amused by one more factoid: We used to watch this in Vietnam, in the form of 16mm movies the army provided for us. I would come in from patrols, etc. in the field and sit and watch an episode, my head whirling from the sheer incongruity of it. Sgt Vic performed one mission after another, while in our real war we couldn't seem to accomplish anything except a series of what we called horror shows. I wonder how many WWII combat dogs felt that way too? Honor to them.

@MrMike3865 That's a really good point. I'm convinced. I remember one episode where a tank drove up and a character jumped out. I'll never forget the scream that went up from the military audience when he put his bare hand on the tank's muffler (which would've been very hot) "No!!" "Stop!!' "Watchit!!" "Eeyow!!" etc. At the time I didn't know about tank mufflers either, being a green 2LT.

Seriously, it seemed like each episode depicted the battles fought immediately after the Normandy landings, a short time period in 1944. Perhaps that is why he looked like his squad was on patrol forever. That is my take on the show.

Combat is awesome. my dad has dvds of some Combat episodes. ahh the things i would do to be born in the 50's, or the 30's that way i would avoid WWII but still be at an age so i can understand what is going on. btw im 15, not your normal teenager huh?
